The neon signs we see today have come far since they were first introduced. The type and style of neon signs that are used now are more elaborate in design, bigger and not just used for a business. There are plenty of neon fixtures around clocks, pictures and other things in the home that we don’t really notice that much today.
When you look back though, the popularity for the neon open signs actually started with the strip malls of the immigrant businesses, to let people know they were open (obviously). Though today you can find many different neon open signs, the most commonly used is the blue surrounding with red lettering. The neon signs of this day and age are much bigger and bolder in their use and even more intricate designs are being made everyday.
Just like the neon open signs, a neon sign for any business catches the eye of a potential customer. I’m not saying that you should go out and get the biggest and best sign you can to attract people, but neon signs can help a great deal when you want people to know you are there. You can have most any specification of neon sign made for you today and there are people that are so skilled in their art, that they can make most anything you want into a neon sign.
If say you own a late night café and you have a competitor down the road, you would be daft not to get a neon open sign and maybe a neon sign for the name of your café. Especially if they don’t, as when people are walking or driving by, who do you think they are going to notice more? You with the bright neon signs outside or your competitor, who’s lights from the inside of the café don’t even show the name on the board above their window? Think about it!
Changeable letter signs are mainly used in stores, on the ground or on the walls. They don’t have to just be a board with letters that can be stuck on, which are still good and easy to use. They can be LCD displays that have a scrolling message on them. These types of changeable letter signs are becoming more and more popular and not just for shops, emergency services use the scrolling LCD signs in their vehicles and on the sides of roads. You see them in sports grounds and many other places. They do not have to be expensive to buy and are very easy to program, just make sure the person who is typing in the words knows how to spell.
The older type of changeable letter signs, as I said before are a bit more basic, but are still very useful for giving people or your customers the information they need. Excellent for an ever changing menu in a café or the specials board in a pub/bar or restaurant and even good to show special offers in any type of shop. Change them at your leisure to show offers, whether they are limited or ongoing and use them to give the best service you can.
Marker boards on the other hand are even more basic, but do not have to be any the less flamboyant in the way they look. You can have many a different colored marker board and use many different colors on them. They are very easy to change, as all you have to do is wipe off what was already on there and replace it with whatever you wish to put on as new. These are probably even the most widely used of all signs, especially inside shops, cafés, bars, restaurants and walk in businesses.
The great thing with marker boards is that they will not cost you hardly anything, I’ve even seen boards made by people who have just used something from out of the garage at home, done it up a bit and hey presto they have a marker board that would look good in any establishment. If you do use a marker board then do not get stuck in the routine of not changing the way it looks. They are as versatile as your imagination, so get creative and a bit arty if you like. The more they stand out, the people will take notice.
Having a sign of any kind, whether it be a neon open sign, changeable letter signs or marker boards, your business will feel the benefits, rather than not having a sign at all.
