Three Ways To Reduce Shoplifting

Of the 27 million people who steal over $13 billion worth of goods each year less than half of them are caught or prosecuted for their crime.

This is hardly good news for shop owners but it’s not all doom and gloom, there are three ways you can help protect yourself and your property.

Security cameras

This is a good way to put off thieves.  If people know they are being filmed, they are less likely to steal as they would surely be taped.  When choosing a camera you can go for the real thing or a simulated security camera.  Don’t worry the simulated and real cameras are so alike, shoppers won’t be able to tell the difference.

There are many options on the market and which one you choose would be based on you needs, a sample of the types of cameras on the market is as follows:

  • Bullet Cameras
  • Dome Cameras
  • Dummy Cameras
  • IP Cameras
  • Spy Cameras
  • Wireless Cameras

Because security cameras aren’t a fool proof against shoplifting, you might want to employ other methods as well.

Another good option is the use of security tags.

Security tags

These anti-shoplifting devices are proving to be a good way to deter shoplifters; they are attached to clothing and other retail items in such a way that they cannot be removed by thieves without damaging the clothing.

If thieves try to leave the store with the security tagged clothing, the store alarm would be activated.  There are many types of tags and they include:

  • Hard plastic tags that set off alarms at the entrance of a store
  • Alarm stickers will also set of the store alarm at the entrance
  • Ink tags that ruin a garment if they are forcibly removed.

Convex circular mirrors

These are also called security mirrors and having one installed would give you an all round view of your stores’ blind spots.

The convex circular mirror is economical and simple to install.  They are particularly useful for shop security as the shop owner can monitor the shop floor easily at a glance.
The mirrors come in different diameters and the larger the diameter the further the viewing distance.

You can choose acrylic or stainless steel mirrors as well as wall mounted or ceiling mirrors, it all depends on your taste.  You should know however with the ceiling mirror you would have a 360 degree vision which is more than the wall mounted

While thieves may be becoming more dareing, you can use the techniques in this article to stay one step ahead of them.
